Need a rich, decadent, over-the-top dessert? Try this Mint Brownie and Oreo Hot Fudge Trifle with Minty Cream Cheese Whipped Cream!

I’m so sorry. You are either going to love me or hate me for this one.

This trifle is insane. Rich. Decadent. Over the top. Possibly the most indulgent recipe I’ve posted to date.

I, the girl who claims that I’ve never met a dessert “too rich,” admits that this might be the one that is pushing the “rich”ter scale.

Trifle dish full of a mint brownie Oreo trifle topped with crushed Oreo's.

And yet, I still could not resist this glorious concoction.

Mint brownies are topped with luscious cream cheese mint whipped cream followed by mint oreos and a very healthy drizzle of hot fudge sauce. Three layers of that beautiful craziness, in fact.

Excuse me while I gather my thoughts. Holy moly.

Have you ever wondered what it would look like to assemble a dessert of these magnificent proportions? Here you go:

This baby is loaded and totally meant to feed and please a large crowd.

By the way, I almost laughed out loud when I typed “light or regular” for the cream cheese in the ingredient list. As if using lowfat cream cheese is really going to help one out in an application such as this. Hardy har har.

In the interest of full disclosure, I actually did use light cream cheese because I knew it would help me feel marginally better when I snuck a second helping (no judging until you’ve tasted this).

Please only venture into making this dessert if you are serious.

Serious about pillowy clouds of minty whipped cream.

Serious about indulging. Serious about wowing your friends.

Serious about mint brownies and hot fudge sauce.

Serious about trifles.

Serious about digging in.

Serious about enjoying life.

Serious about the most ridiculously wonderful dessert of 2013.

I’m serious. Are you?

Mint Brownie and Oreo Hot Fudge Trifle

4.71 stars (31 ratings)

Ingredients

Brownies:

  • 9X13 pan of brownies, cut into small cubes (see note – you only will use about 3/4 of the pan of brownies)

Mint Cream Cheese Whipped Cream:

  • 8 ounces (227 g) cream cheese, light or regular, softened
  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1-2 teaspoons mint extract
  • ½ cup (57 g) powdered sugar

Oreos and Hot Fudge:

  • 25 mint Oreos, coarsely chopped
  • ½ – ¾ cup hot fudge sauce, warmed slightly

Instructions

  • For the whipped cream, in a large bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese with about 1/2 cup of the whipping cream until the mixture is smooth. Add the mint extract, powdered sugar and the remainder of the whipping cream gradually. Mix on high speed until the cream is whipped and the mixture is very thick and creamy.
  • In a glass trifle dish (or large glass bowl), place in 1/3 of the brownies then 1/3 of the whipped cream, spreading evenly to the edges. Next sprinkle in a little more than 1/3 of the Oreos (about 10 chopped) and finally drizzle with 1/3 of the hot fudge sauce.
  • Repeat that same layering process two more times (the only difference is that I only used about 4 chopped Oreos for the very final layer – so the first two layers use about 10 chopped Oreos each).
  • Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Notes

Brownies: you’ll need about 3/4 of the brownies. I know that’s an obscure amount but I found that a 9X9-inch just wasn’t enough but the full 9X13-inch pan was too much. So freeze the remaining 1/4 pan of brownies or throw them at your kids for a snack; pretty sure they won’t complain. And of course I won’t tell if you cut back and only use a 9X9-inch pan of brownies – chicken!
Recipe + Mint Extract: I used this recipe for the Easiest Brownies in the World and because I knew they would be used in this divine trifle, I added a teaspoon of mint extract to the brownie batter.
