Mint Brownie and Oreo Hot Fudge Trifle with Minty Cream Cheese Whipped Cream
Need a rich, decadent, over-the-top dessert? Try this Mint Brownie and Oreo Hot Fudge Trifle with Minty Cream Cheese Whipped Cream!
I’m so sorry. You are either going to love me or hate me for this one.
This trifle is insane. Rich. Decadent. Over the top. Possibly the most indulgent recipe I’ve posted to date.
I, the girl who claims that I’ve never met a dessert “too rich,” admits that this might be the one that is pushing the “rich”ter scale.
And yet, I still could not resist this glorious concoction.
Mint brownies are topped with luscious cream cheese mint whipped cream followed by mint oreos and a very healthy drizzle of hot fudge sauce. Three layers of that beautiful craziness, in fact.
Excuse me while I gather my thoughts. Holy moly.
Have you ever wondered what it would look like to assemble a dessert of these magnificent proportions? Here you go:
This baby is loaded and totally meant to feed and please a large crowd.
By the way, I almost laughed out loud when I typed “light or regular” for the cream cheese in the ingredient list. As if using lowfat cream cheese is really going to help one out in an application such as this. Hardy har har.
In the interest of full disclosure, I actually did use light cream cheese because I knew it would help me feel marginally better when I snuck a second helping (no judging until you’ve tasted this).
Please only venture into making this dessert if you are serious.
Serious about pillowy clouds of minty whipped cream.
Serious about indulging. Serious about wowing your friends.
Serious about mint brownies and hot fudge sauce.
Serious about trifles.
Serious about digging in.
Serious about enjoying life.
Serious about the most ridiculously wonderful dessert of 2013.
I’m serious. Are you?

Mint Brownie and Oreo Hot Fudge Trifle
Ingredients
Brownies:
- 9X13 pan of brownies, cut into small cubes (see note – you only will use about 3/4 of the pan of brownies)
Mint Cream Cheese Whipped Cream:
- 8 ounces (227 g) cream cheese, light or regular, softened
- 3 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1-2 teaspoons mint extract
- ½ cup (57 g) powdered sugar
Oreos and Hot Fudge:
- 25 mint Oreos, coarsely chopped
- ½ – ¾ cup hot fudge sauce, warmed slightly
Instructions
- For the whipped cream, in a large bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese with about 1/2 cup of the whipping cream until the mixture is smooth. Add the mint extract, powdered sugar and the remainder of the whipping cream gradually. Mix on high speed until the cream is whipped and the mixture is very thick and creamy.
- In a glass trifle dish (or large glass bowl), place in 1/3 of the brownies then 1/3 of the whipped cream, spreading evenly to the edges. Next sprinkle in a little more than 1/3 of the Oreos (about 10 chopped) and finally drizzle with 1/3 of the hot fudge sauce.
- Repeat that same layering process two more times (the only difference is that I only used about 4 chopped Oreos for the very final layer – so the first two layers use about 10 chopped Oreos each).
- Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Delicious! Have u ever tried to make this with marshmallow fluff instead of cream cheese?
I haven’t, sorry!
Hi love making desserts and cooking thanks for sharing your recipe please have a great night looking to make a trifle for christmas please let me know of different trifle i can make thanks
Can this be made well in advance? Like 8 days? Would it freeze okay?
I haven’t made it that far in advance, so I’m not sure. I’m worried the cream layer might get a bit liquidy if frozen.
Hi, Mel!
I made this for Christmas last year for my boyfriend’s family. Instead of making one big trifle, I made individual portions in mason jars. Since we’ll be spending Thanksgiving with them and Christmas with my family, I received a special request from my BF’s niece to make them for Thanksgiving. Looks like we have a new tradition!
LOVE the idea of making this in individual jars. So cute! Thanks for sharing! I’m not surprised it was requested again. 🙂
Oh my gosh, this was so awesome. Will definitely make again. Was easy to put together and looked just like the photo.
Delicious.
Thanks for the tip Mel!! Making them now! ❤️❤️
I am making this and my “whipped cream” mixture is not thick at all! It’s soupy, not sure what I did wrong?
Hi Stacy – what brand of heavy cream did you use? What percentage fat was it?
It may just need to be mixed more. I was surprised at how long I had to mix it for it to get think and whipped.
Making this for 15 year olds birthday dinner! Any preference on which of your brownie recipes to use for this?
❤️❤️❤️
These would be delicious! https://www.melskitchencafe.com/one-bowl-extra-fudgy-brownies/
How many servings will this make?
12-14
I made this dessert for Christmas Eve dinner. It was so easy to make & a big hit with everyone. They all loved it!! I will definetely be making this again!!❤️
Can one use semi sweet chocolate chips in the hot fudge sauce?
Some brands of chocolate chips don’t melt as well as others, so i you want to use chocolate chips, I’d suggest using Guittard or Ghirardelli brand as they’ve melted the best when I’ve used them.
how far in advance can this be made and not affect the taste? Night before? In the morning when it will be eaten that night? Thank you!
I think the night before would work just fine. Definitely the morning of would work, too.
Made this for a family gathering. Everyone LOVED it . The next day leftovers were even better! Great recipe!!!!
I wasn’t planning on making this dessert, but when I was asked to bring a treat to dinner with friends I couldn’t get this recipe out of my head! It is super rich but in the most satisfying way possible. The kids all gobbled theirs up but didn’t ask for seconds- this has more of an adult richness to it (rather than kiddie sweets like Twinkies or Cosmic brownies or other such cheap treats that kids love to wolf down). We all loved it! Thanks for another great recipe.
Just a quick question about the directions on this. In step 1 it says to
“beat together the softened cream cheese with about 1/2 cup of the whipped cream until the mixture is smooth”. Should the cream already be whipped? So 1/2 cup cream that has been whipped? Or should I add 1/2 cup whipping cream?
My confusion continues. . . “Add the mint extract, powdered sugar and the remainder of the whipped cream gradually”. (This makes me think the cream has already been whipped.) “Mix on high speed until the cream is whipped and the mixture is very thick and creamy”. (This makes me think it hasn’t.)
I guess I think whipping cream = straight from the carton and whipped cream = Cool Whip consistency. Please help! 🙂 I am making this for 300 guests on Saturday and don’t want to mess it up!
Oh, one more thing. You mention adding mint extract to the brownie batter in the recipe preface, but not in the directions. Which way do you prefer? Thanks again!
Hi Amy – I think it might be confusing because I used the term “whipped” instead of just saying whipping cream. Basically, you add 1/2 cup of the unwhipped whipping cream to the cream cheese and mix until smooth. Again, in the 2nd part of your question, I should have used the term “whipping cream” instead of whipped cream because you add it unwhipped. I’ll edit the recipe. I think the brownies are delicious with or without the mint extract, honestly, but I only indicated it in the recipe notes since it is optional. If you want to really ramp up the mint flavor, I would add a teaspoon of mint extract to the brownies. Good luck!
I made this for a New Year’s Eve Party and it was a HUGE hit. Yours was much prettier but it tasted like heaven in a bowl. Thank you for ALWAYS having the best recipies on the internet.
Do you think I could sub out the brownies for chocolate cake (with mint extract added into the batter)? I’m just wondering if make it a “lighter” dessert and/or it’ll withstand up to the cream cheese and such (and by lighter I mean density, not calories 😉 ). This looks heavenly and I cannot wait to try it out!
Kelly – yes, I think cake would make an excellent substitution for the brownies!
We just discovered Mint Oreos this fall. . . .dangerous!
This looks so delicious, Mel. The perfect indulgent dessert for the holidays! And yes-it’s the holidays so let’s splurge and enjoy! Wishing you and your family all the best in the New Year!
I’m making this right now for a special Christmas dessert…so beyond excited to eat it tonight! I don’t see in the directions when you add the powdered sugar into the whipped cream mixture…too late for me today, but I’m curious to know for next time.
Thanks for the heads up, Annie – I just added it in the directions!
This makes me want to buy a trifle dish and have a party just to make this!
Ooooh, Mel, the mint cream cheese whipped cream alone is worth the price of admission! This looks amazing, and is the perfect holiday indulgence. Counting calories is just beside the point with desserts like these! Keep doing just what you’re doing, Mel, just how you do it.

Your blog has become my favorite this year. Thank you for posting a recipe two days before Christmas – when a lot of bloggers would take the whole week off. Your food is as delicious as your writing! Merry Christmas!
Being a food explorer, I have never tried a trifle! This is got to be a great place to start!
Whoa….
This dessert has my name written all over it! It’s a darn good thing I am Beyond sugared out or else I would Have to make this for our big Family Christmas Eve party. Merry Christmas, Mel! Hope you have a wonderful holiday!
Rich-ter scale, so ingenious Mel! Merry Christmas sweet and amazing friend!
Amazing!! Just looking at the picture makes me happy. Merry Merry Christmas to you and your family Mel!
This looks so delicious to bring to my family Christmas Eve gathering! If I make it tonight do you think it will last in the fridge until I can bring it to the party tomorrow night? I’m afraid the the whip will dissolve and the oreos get soggy… Unfortunately I have to work tomorrow and won’t have time to make it
Thanks!
Leah – yes, I think it will keep just fine in the fridge for up to 24 hours (I made it a day ahead of time when I served it to company last month).
Mel, get a grip. You’re slip-sliding and the edge of the cliff is looming. 2,000 calories, 100 grams of saturated fat and $4 per portion do NOT a dessert make. You’re more creative than this. Please. We depend on you.
Hi Judy – sounds like this dessert isn’t your kind of thing; I truly welcome all comments (in favor of recipes or not) and work very hard to maintain a positive atmosphere on my blog. Because of that, a civil tone instead of a derogatory, negative one when sharing your opinions would be super awesome. Merry Christmas!
This looks insanely delicious! Love!
My mint addiction and I thank you very much, Miss Mel. I am trying to create something like this that you would make in a springform pan- brownie layer first, then kind of a minty cheesecake filling, then mint oreos or andes mints on top. hmmmm…….
Also, I just made the peppermint patties and I think life will never be the same. They are the bomb or whatever expression the youn-uns are using these days. (sick, maybe?)
Oh yes! This will be coming with me to the next gathering! The recipe listed oreos twice – is that right or am I reading it wrong?
Thanks for the catch, you guys. Yes, nearly 50 Oreos might be just a touch too decadent. I edited the recipe (the oreos and hot fudge sauce were listed twice).
This looks to die for!! I will add it to my list of trifle recipes. 🙂 Really quick though, I think maybe the oreos and hot fudge sauce were inadvertently listed twice in the ingredient list. 🙂
I’ve been checking out your blog recently as I live with my sig other and his brother and his father and his brother’s friend. Me and a bunch of hungry men! Your recipes have proven to be just the trick to feed these guys and make sure there will be enough for leftovers (usually gone by breakfast!) Of course, “The” Spaghetti Pie has been requested for Christmas dinner. 😉
Anyway, I swear this recipe was meant for me as my man went to the kitchen last night for Oreo cookies and ice cream and I had a thought that I needed to see if you had anything that combined the two….Hahaha, thank you! You are amazing!
Can I love you and hate you?! Wow, this looks so so so so good.
Cream cheese is wonderful! Crazy people don’t like the taste of cream cheese…I live with three of them!!! Is there a good substitute for the cream cheese?
Andreya – can you find mascarpone cheese where you live? It’s milder and a bit creamier than cream cheese – and absolutely wonderful.
I have a weakness for trifles and this one would not stand a chance! I vote light cream cheese because then you can just eat a little bit more;-) (or a lot more)
