Solid Peanut Butter Cups
Get this recipe for solid peanut butter cups. The texture is soft and creamy and it is the perfect combination of peanut butter and chocolate!
Years ago, a friend of mine brought me some of her famous homemade peanut butter cups for a little treat after I had a baby.
These treats were legendary and I felt honored to receive a few.
When I bit into them I was surprised that there was no peanut butter middle! The entire cup of chocolate was laden with peanut butter and it was intensely creamy and so very delicious.
I asked my friend for the recipe. She said she’d bring it over later. She never did. I asked her probably 10 times for the recipe to no avail.
She wouldn’t share it. I finally gave up asking. So, two years later, I took matters into my own hands and I recreated these little nuggets myself.
And oh, am I ever glad I did, because I daresay that my homemade peanut butter cups are even better than the original I tasted years ago (that’s what she gets for not sharing, right?
An improvement on her legendary cups!). What I love about these beauties is that the texture is soft and creamy and it is the perfect combination of peanut butter and chocolate.
Solid Peanut Butter Cups
Ingredients
- 12 ounces (340 g) melted chocolate, I used 9 ounces semi-sweet squares and 3 ounces white chocolate squares
- 1 cup (255 g) creamy peanut butter
- ½ cup (57 g) confectioner’s sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- Melt chocolate according to package directions, taking care not to overheat. I melted the semisweet and white chocolate separately and then mixed together.
- To melted chocolate add peanut butter, sugar and vanilla. Mix well. Spoon or pipe (I used a decorating bag with a large round tip) chocolate mixture into small baking cups. Refrigerate until set. Enjoy!
I lowkey hope the chick that never gave you the recipe reads this and tries it haha. You rock, Mel.
too easy !I love it(you could say i love anything on your site)Plus I LOVE cooking!
Thanks, I’ll give it a try. If nothing else I’ll use it as peanut butter filling so it has a hard shell around it. The kids are more than happy to take care of the experiment candies until I get it right LOL
Do these have to stay in the fridge? I made a batch and poured it into heart and little gingerbread boy molds. Worked fabulous for molding, they turned out so cute. But they soften way too much within a few minutes of taking them out of the fridge. Was hoping to add them to our Christmas candy boxes for Christmas gifts but if I have to keep them cold that won’t work. Just wondering if yours turned out soft or not. I used chips, maybe using a bar chocolate would work better?
The taste was fantastic though.
It’s been a while since I’ve made these but I remember giving some as gifts and keeping them at room temperature for at least a few hours or so. You might try adding a bit less peanut butter and using bar chocolate and see how that goes.
Hi Mel, so I went ahead and made these without the sugar & vanilla, using semi-sweet (51% cacao) chocolate chips and they turned out just right.
Could these be done without the confectioner’s sugar?
Fernando – I have never tried it. I don’t think they’d be sweet enough, but you are welcome to experiment and see how they turn out. Good luck.
Oh my gosh!!! These are soooo good! I made them on a pre-Easter whim, since I didn’t buy candy for my husband and little ones, and I am so glad I did! They are so quick and easy and delicious! These will satisfy any chocolate and pb craving! Thank you!
I made these today, and they are so good. Will be making them again for sure. Was telling some of my friends about your recipes and they to are going to try out some of your recipes. Once again thanks for sharing
Hi Cassie – yes, these are best refrigerated, although they are fine to be left out for a short time (like an hour or so).
Hi Mel,
Not sure if you will see this comment since the recipe isn’t recent…but I have a question. Do they need to stay refrigerated after setting up? I hope I hear from you!
I am heading to a viewing of “The Help” tomorrow night at our small town charming local library and CANNOT resist taking these along as an ode to Minnie! Based on the comments, I think I’ll make a full batch and won’t have a single one leftover!
WOW! I was searching your site for something to satisfy my sweet tooth….but I needed something quick and easy, and I prefer anything with peanut butter and chocolate! This definitely did the trick!! Thanks!
Oh my, oh my!!! I made these today for a friend’s birthday and after trying one I didn’t want to give them away!! They are truly amazing. Thanks for the recipe!!
Kensi – these are addicting little things! I hope some made it to your friend’s party!
Debbie – thanks for your review on these! They are some of my favorites…and I’m so glad they were a hit for your bible study group!
Oh, and it’s also really good using all semi-sweet chocolate instead of a combo!
These are so good! I can’t stop eating them. I made these as well as the chocolate ganache filled brown sugar bars for our bible study group and people couldn’t stop talking about the peanut butter cups! I thought between the two the other dessert was much fancier (and more complicated), but there you have it!
Those sound so good!! I like the pattern on top. Chocolate and peanut butter…mmm…
These are incredible! I’m so glad I could be your very first event (see it wasn’t so hard!). I love these and know I will be making them! Thanks SO much! You rock!
Homemade peanut butter cups are definitely the best!
Krista – thanks for the recommendation on this recipe. I agree that they are perfectly addicting. I’ll also agree about the chocolate chips – I definitely notice a difference when using generic chocolate. I always buy Ghirardellis or Nestle because you can tell after melting when the chocolate isn’t better quality. Thanks!
I feel like having one – they look so yummy!
Wow, the peanut butter cups look awesome!
I have a recipe for these and they are so good.
I can’t wait to try these…they look to die for! I LOVE peanut butter and chocolate.
Hahaha! I love the background you gave on these! That’s funny – She wouldn’t share her famous recipe, so you came up with your own IMPROVED version! 🙂 Awesome!
reese’s ain’t got nothin’ on you. 🙂
Oh my gosh, I just want to pick one out of my computer screen right now! I must make these as soon as possible! Thanks for the great recipe! I’m never going to make my goal before swimsuit season starts!
I added that recipe onto my blog.:)
Okay, those were ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!!! AND SO FAST! It took me less than 10 minutes from START to FINISH. I love love love that. And I just used a quart sized Ziploc and they didn’t turn out looking half bad either. THANK YOU for yet another winner!
Hey Mel,>>With three active boys I don’t blame you! At least Cole hangs out in his baby sling and sleeps most of the time I’m moving around the kitchen. Thanks again!>>Holly
Thanks for commenting, everyone! These little morsels ARE delicious – let me know if anyone tries them. >>Steph – if it makes you feel any better, I am SO far from swimsuit goal that I’ve just decided to bag it. I might as well enjoy chocolate instead of stressing about the pool, right?>>Holly – you are right, it wasn’t hard at all, but don’t be surprised if I don’t enter another one for a while. This was a special cause!>>Recipegirl – GREAT idea – I bet that would enhance the peanut butter flavor a lot. A little more work perhaps, but I bet it would be delicious.
Jamy – I’m glad to know the ziploc bag method worked great. Thanks for checking in and letting me know they turned out and you enjoyed them!
They are so cute, and delicious I bet!>>I wonder how it would work out if you also threw in a smidgen of PB in the middle of the chocolate (like reeses?)
These look awesome!! I LOVE the combination of peanut butter and chocolate! Iwill definetly have to try! Yum!
Thanks for visiting my blog.:) I LOVE your blog and just added it to my sidebar. The shredded chicken pitas called my name and I must make them tomorrow! Thanks for the great ideas.
Those are SOOOO cute! I’m going to HAVE to make these for my next party!
Okay, when I saw the pictures of your peanut butter cups I gasped out loud. Of course I made them the next day. They were fabulous. I had to send most of them to Randy’s office for a work party and now everyone thinks I should open up my own business. >The commissary (grocery store) never has all the ingredients I need, like mini-muffin cups, and white baking chocolate. I melted white chocolate chips instead and used regular-size muffin cups. I didn’t fill them very much or they would’ve been peanut butter buckets instead of cups. Next time I will probably just pipe them on wax paper. Anyway, I love your recipes and have tried several of them. Thanks for being a domestic goddess and sharing your recipes!
Krista – aren’t you sweet? Thanks for flattering me and I’m glad you like the recipes. Hope these were yummy (despite the mess)!
Krista – too funny about your boyfriend sneaking all the PB cups. At least that means they were a success, right? Thanks for letting me know (and you don’t have to worry about over-commenting – I love it when people do).
I could definitely use one of these right now!! They look and sound so wonderful!
How easy are those! They are on my list!
I made these… they’re in the refrigerator right now. I’m lacking in the “how to fill a piping bag by myself” skills, but I did it anyway, and made a huge mess. I’m sure they’ll be delicious.
I pretty much EXCLUSIVELY cook from your website these days, and I’m excited to discover what I’ll try next.
not to over-reply but I just wanted to note that my boyfriend got his hands on my solid peanut butter cups this weekend, and kept “sneaking” to the refrigerator to eat more of them. He has already asked me to make them again because he loves them.
Well, in that case, I’ll comment again! These peanutbutter cups must bring out a really generous part of myself because I’m making them for EVERYONE! And everyone loves them.
I’ve found that I can make them just as successfully in the microwave as I could on the stove, and that the ingredients don’t need to be measured as long as I taste it (and who wouldn’t want to do that) as I go along!
Generic chocolate chips- however- are VERY different than brand name. They tasted funny to me. I’d spend the extra dollar next time for the good stuff, even if I am giving them all away…
I made a half batch (just eyeballing it…) of these just a few minutes ago, and got 24 little candies.
Perfectly and wonderfully awesome. I truly love this recipe…
And to anyone who’s thinking about trying this– just do it. Make them and eat them instead of just drooling over the pictures… it’s too easy not to.
